Suggest Ways To Increase The Follicle Size While On Clomid

Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: Went in for ultrasound scan for follicle growth measurements on cd 10. Over 10+ follicles seen, however the 3 largest measured 12mm, 10mm, and 0.9.mm. Took clomid 150 mgs for 5 days starting cd 4. Going back in for another scan tomorrow, which will be cd 12 only. They are trying to see how they are growing for when I can be given the hcg trigger shot and schedule the IUI procedure.

I always have a regular period each month and this is my 2nd month being on clomid. I canceled last month's IUI due to losing my job and not being prepared financially for pregnancy. I have snice then gotten a new job and will be moving forward with the IUI this cycle. I am worried that something is wrong with me because the follicles never grow this slowly for me so far. And last month, since I took the Clomid but didn't end up taking the hcg trigger shot, I must have ovulated on my own. But my period was late and didn't start until cd 33. Do you think this clomid is messing me up and do you think that by tomorrow, the follicles will be higher in measurement so that I can so the IUI sometime soon and take that shot?

Thank you so much for your help. I am so so nervous and all I do is worry now about these follicle sizes as this has never been a problem for me in the past and by cd 12 they were already telling me to take the hcg trigger shot, but things are progressing much slower this month and I am scared that I hurt myself or something? :(

Brief Answer:
Age related

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about slow growth of follicles.

This appears to be age related. As you are 34, the age slows down follicular growth. If there is no much growth by tomorrow in ultrasound scan, you might need to take few doses of gonadotropin injections which will help in increasing follicle size.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Yes. I do have a question. If the follicles haven't grown by what they need to be by tomorrow, that doesn't mean that they won't keep growing right, even if it is a slow growth? I will eventually ovulate. That might mean I have to keep coming back in for ultrasounds, but I will eventually ovulate. Any thoughts as to why my period was late like that last month? Thank you for your help. Also, my period is regular each month and I have had a good response to follicle growth and ny dr has said that I have had textbook results. He also said age 34 is not considered old and that the test on my ovarian reserve came back very good.

Brief Answer:
Follicles will grow

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Follicles if not grown by tomorrow are likely to grow again slowly in coming days. You may need to repeat ultrasound scan on CD 15 to see growth.

Such slow growth is seen when many follicles are growing together.

Let me know if you need any more help.

so, if they are not measuring 18mm by tomorrow, it doesn't mean that I won't necessarily not ovulate? it may just need a few more days to grow? correct? thanks!

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If follicle is not 18 mm yet by tomorrow, you will need to repeat ultrasound scan after few more days to check if it has reached.

Trigger injection can only be given if follicle is 18 mm or more.
