Question: I have a 3 year old grandson with autistic disorder. He refuses to obey common commands such as sit on the couch or come here, etc. His hearing has been checked and is normal. What do we do to get him to listen?

Brief Answer:
family needs help from a professional

Detailed Answer:
Hello and I am sorry you are having this problem,
This is not a simple problem and there are no simple solutions. Children with autism do not process things in the same way that other children do. They live in an internal world and respond to their own internal ideas and desires. If your grandson is to have a healthy functional life he will need intervention by professionals trained in treating autism. A pediatrician or a pediatric neurologist that specializes in autism would be a good place to start. Because autistic children can present many problems to the family, family therapy with a therapist trained in autism spectrum disorder would also be very helpful.
I wish you and your grandson success in overcoming these obstacles.
