Posted on Thu, 12 May 2016
Question: Hi, I'm 31, PCOS, 5 feet 3 inches, 85 Kgs. My doctor has prescribed Methylcobalamin, Metformin SR & Lipocut. I have also been asked to join a GYM which I despise. Can't I do rigorous stationary biking and brisk walking for weight loss. What can I do to achieve faster but sustainable weight loss?

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The key to weight loss is exercise and diet.
First, consult a Nutritionist and get a tailored diet chart made according to your food preference and activity levels.
You should consume a limited / restricted calorie diet with lots of fruits, veggies, water, soups, salads and proteins.
Avoid processed food, carbohydrates, oil, ghee, sugar, excessive salt.
Exercise in any form is prescribed.
You have to burn a fixed number of calories daily.
Of course, you can go for rigorous stationary biking.
Aim at burning atleast 500 calories daily, 5 days a week, and eating less than 1200 calories ( depending on your activity levels ).
You should see a healthy sustained weight loss of around 0.5 - 1 kg per week.
Also, fast weight loss is not sustainable.
Gradual steady weight loss is advised.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
