Suggest Treatmentt For Throat Ulcers
Question: I HAVE HAD BEHCETS DISEASE FOR TEN YEARS. SINCE STARTING REMICADE IN 2004 MY EYES & INTESTINES HAVE REMAINED "QUIET" ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO I DEVELOPED SEVERE ULCERS IN MY ESOPHAGUS AND AROUND MY LARYNX & MY GLOTTIS IS SWOLLEN AND DEFORMED. i HAVE TRIED METHOTREXATE INJECTIONS, IMURAN, COLCHICINE, PREDNISONE, PRISLOSEC. i SEEM TO HAVE THE GENIUSES (RHEUM, GI & ENT) STUMPED. THE METHOTREXATE CLEARED UP THE ULCERS ON MY PALATE BUT "GROUND ZERO" IN MY THROAT IHAS NOT RESPONDED TO ANY TREATMENT. BIOPSIES SHOW MARKED INFLAMMATION, GRANULATION, FIBRINOPURULENT EXUDATE, OCC T CELL & MAST CELL, CULTURES NEGATIVE

I have read your query and understand your concern.
As you have already tried almost everything with no long lasting effects. I would suggest that you switch over to newer generation medicines which have come up recently due to advances in medical science.
Like anti TNF(tumor necrosis factor) such as infiximab and etanercept. These are shown useful in patients with uveitis , skin and mucosal symptoms.
Interferon alfa a2 may also be an effective alternative treatment particularly for oral ulcers.
Other drugs like dapsone and rebamipide have also been shown benficial results for mucocutaneous lesions.
But you need to discuss with your treating doctor about this newer medications as they also have dangerous side effect profile and should only be taken under expert supervision.
