Suggest Treatment To Reduce Teething Pain In An Infant

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,

My 4 month old baby seems to have started teething. She has started drooling since last few weeks. Recently, she seems to be biting and chewing her fingers a lot and anything she can get her hands on.
In the last two days, she is crying a lot and is not ready to lay down at all. She is crankier than usual.

How do I ease her teething pain?

She is exclusively breastfed right now. I have not introduced any external food or bottles or pacifiers yet.

Please help.

Brief Answer:
try teethers and paracetamol

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I really understand your baby's problem.
Teething pain is indeed troublesome but don't worry it is temporary only.
I usually advice my patients to
1. Use teethers. They should be soft, child safe not locally made cheap stuff. Clean teethers everytime before giving to your baby.
2. If very severe try paracetamol drops around 0.5 ml as and when needed , but not more than 4 times daily.
3. Try diverting attention with toys and music and bells.
4. Frequent feeding will help her forget pain.

Don't worry she will get over it soon.
Let me know if you need further help.
