Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Your mother appears anemic and the best way to help prevent anemia is to eat a nutritious iron-rich diet. Limiting coffee may also help since caffeine limits iron absorption. Vitamin C can help the body absorb iron better when taken with iron-rich foods.

What happens in diabetics is that the kidney also get affected and enough of red blood cells are not produced as required. This leads to tiredness, lack of energy and generalized weakness. The swelling of legs may also be due to impaired kidney function. It will be nice to get the kidney function tests like blood urea and serum creatinine done and if necessary please discuss with a nephrologist.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
