Question: Hi, I was born with a fair complexion, but from childhood I was too active playing outdoor games and sports and never followed any skin care regimen. So, sometimes my skin colour turned too dark and sometimes it recovered on its own. Sun has always played havoc with my skin. Now I am 28 years old and my skin seems to have lost radiance and colour over all these years. In spite of having very good features, I look dull and sick because of my patchy dull skin with highly uneven skin tone, dark circles and dark lips(my lips were pink, now they are almost grey and have to use lipsticks to hide it). Pls help me out. Now I want to look my best and want to have smooth and fair skin as it was years ago. Pls recommend me some creams which I can avail in pharmacy stores in XXXXXXX easily. Pls help me.

Brief Answer:
Tanning

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your concern and I have understood it.

Tanning seems to be your main concern.

UV A part of the electromagnetic spectrum is mainly responsible for tanning. I would suggest you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day.

It is important to select a right sunscreen for desired effect. A good sunscreen should have broad spectrum UV A coverage in addition to UV B coverage, in order to be able to prevent tanning and it needs to be applied in sufficient quantity and every 2-3 hourly. A sunscreen with minimum 30 spf would be adequate. It should mention both UV B and UV A coverage.

It should be applied in the following quantity: --3ml for face and neck(a little more than 1/2 teaspoon) --3ml for each arm(a little more than 1/2 teaspoon).

A sunscreen should be applied every 2-3 hours.

If I was your treating doctor I would have asked you to use a cream containing one or more of the skin lightening agents e.g kojic acid, glycolic acid, arbutin or hydroquinone etc once daily at night to gradually fade away the XXXXXXX

Demelan cream is one such cream, marketed by gracewell/glenmark pharmaceuticals in XXXXXXX Another one is Carofit Ultra marketed by XXXXXXX pharmaceuticals in XXXXXXX

You can also opt for a few peeling sessions from a dermatologist e.g Glycolic peel Or Retises CT peel (Yellow peel, also known as skin lightening peel)

Sir, my main problem is my complexion. I am religiously using broad spectrum sunscreen (Loreal).my real complexion is hidden under these layers of XXXXXXX or pigmentation. Especially, on my forehead is a stubborn dark layer that is difficult to fade. My cheeks are lighter in colour.but dark XXXXXXX on my forehead and my dark circles together make me look dark. I want it all even and lighter as much as possible. Since I am handling my baby all the time, it is impossible for me to go out to see a doctor or go for peels right now. I would be really grateful if u could name me good creams and pls tell me the duration of use also. Can u also prescribe me a good cream for lightening my lips and dark circles too? Should I apply demelan or carfit ultra? Which one is more effective for my face?

Brief Answer:
Pigmentation and under eye dark circles

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Apart from the sunscreen, that you need to use all over the face, throughout the day you may use Melalite-XL cream at night X 1-2 months, to be applied just over the dark areas on forehead (not to be used all over the face). Follow up with a dermatologist after using this medicines for the prescribed duration

For under eye dark circles you may use Avarta undereye cream (marketed by dr. reddy's in India), twice daily.

Thank u sir. I have few more questions. I have two shiny growths on my left upper eyelid just above the area of eyelashes.they are rounded almost the size of mustard seeds. It started out as tiny ( almost invisible) dot and gradually over 3 to 4 years, it grew in size. It is very much noticeable and looks ugly. Now same dot I can see on the same spot on the right upper eyelid.this will also grow slowly. I suspect these are warts as I always had a problem of warts since childhood. Few years ago, I just had cauterisation of warts on my hands and fingers. In childhood, they were all over my face and it was treated and cured by homeopathy. Any cream for those on my eyelids? Next, I want to know a good skin are regimen and diet, any particular foods that I must include etc to keep my skin fresh and radiant. Can u Also pls suggest a specific cream for lightening, which can also be worn under lipstick ? I would be really grateful if you could help me with this.

Skin health tips

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

If the lesions on your eyelids are indeed warts, then they ought to be removed either by Co 2 laser or with radiofrequency cautery. However, I would be able to confirm whether they are warts or something else only once I have a look at them. You can post me a clear digital close up photograph.

Skin reflects your internal health and if you eat and drink healthy, your skin would be healthy.

-A good amount of fresh fruits, vegetables should be a part of you daily diet. Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of vitamins (Vit A, C, E) and minerals which help to keep your skin young and healthy.
-Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.
-Avoid too much of tea, coffee, caffeine etc
-Regular exercise like brisk walking, jogging etc for 30 min daily.
-Use a sunscreen regularly, throughout the day. A good sunscreen should be broad spectrum, which has a minimum spf of 30, that protects you against both UV A as well as UV B part of the spectrum.
-At night you can use a cream containing various skin lightening agents e.g Demelan cream (contains glycolic acid, kojic acid, arbutin etc).
