Suggest Treatment To Accelerate Healing Of The Damaged Muscle And Rotator Cuff Due To A Fell

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Sep 2018
Question: about 6 weeks ago on Dec 25th I fell from a horse and landed on my right elbow. I did not really hurt my elbow but, because of the impact I injured my shoulder. the MRI shows I injured my upper biceps and some damage to the rotary cuff. I have been doing therapy and acupuncture but am surprised how slow the progress is going. I still have trouble raising my arm straight to the front. I love swimming, golf, and yoga and can do very little of them. Any comments ?

Brief Answer:

Can be due to persistent inflammation.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

A damage to the muscle and rotator cuff is slow to heal if proper rest is not provided for healing. There can be a mild inflammation present due to the injury that delays the healing.

1. You need to restrict all the overhead and painful activities for a few weeks.

2. Regular physiotherapy will help once you are pain free.

3. If oral anti inflammatory medicines are not helping then do consider getting a steroid shot after consulting your orthopedician.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Wishing you good health.

Regards.

should I do some mild shoulder exercises in order to start regaining strength and movement ? I am not in constant pain. I am just a bit frustrated that I am restrained from many movements .

Brief Answer:

You can do mild exercises.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Thanks for writing again.

You can do mild passive shoulder exercises and stop when you start feeling a pain. Such soft tissue injuries are slow to heal.

Having oral muscle relaxants and a multivitamin supplement will also help.

Hope my answer is helpful.
