Question: My wife was diagnosed with a large brain tumor, probably glioblestoma or Astrocytoma. Will be scheduled for surgery in XXXXXXX Idaho this week at St Lukes by Dr XXXXXXX Little. Are their other options or treatments?

I read your question carefully and I am sorry about your wife's diagnosis.

If by other options you mean alternatives which could avoid surgery then I am afraid not, surgery is the mainstay of treatment both for glioblastoma and astrocitoma (actually glioblastoma is a form of astrocitoma, the most malignant stage one).

After the surgery, which will include a biopsy to definitely classify the tumor, then other treatment forms will be considered namely radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but surgery is always the first step in the management of such tumors.
