Suggest Treatment For Yeast Infection

Posted on Thu, 3 Jul 2014
Question: I recdntly was diagnosed with a UTI. They put me on macrobid for 7 days and I felt some relief. Because of the anitibiotics, I started to get a awful yeast infection. Today I only have one pill left for the uti and I still feel some uncomfortable oain but cannot tell if its the irritation from yeast infection or still uti? I took an AZO otc and it came back positive for leukocytes again. Nitrates negative. When they did the culture, the leukocytes were positive and i had a tarce of protein. They said thats normal with uti and to continue my meds. Now, i have a yeast infection, feels like i still have a slight uti, my otc azo was positive. What else could this be...? Do i need a different antibiotic? I never took macrobid before, they always gave me something different. Little worried hope you can clarify what this can mean, or what the next step would possibly be. I did call dr, waiting for a call back.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

You need to verify your infection once again. Regular urine analysis should be done and urine culture test. Urine culture (I`m sure you haven't had it done, urine analysis was done only) is a test which allows to determine exact bacteria type and its sensitivity to antibiotics. According to urine culture result, the best antibiotic can be chosen.
In a meanwhile you should increase mineral water intake (up to 3 liters/24 hours) and start cranberries supplements. To protect your digestive tract from antibiotics, please also start probiotic intake.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

The office called me back and because they just did a culture on me they did not think another culture would help at this time. They put me on 7 days of cipro. What do you think of this? Thanks you for helping me with my questions.

Detailed Answer:
Well, putting you on ciprofloxacine means that they also think this is the bacterial infection. And if they think you have an infection, the urine culture should be done to find out which bacteria is causing it. So it is not true that it wont help. It looks like they want to give you a treatment but they are afraid to diagnose it.
Anyways, ciprofloxacine is a good antibiotic for UTI and helps in most cases. So if you have started it already, please finish therapy (usually it should be taken 500 mg twice a day for 5 days).

Regards.
