default
Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: My father had slipped and fell on his wrist and broke his left hand. Doctor said there is a broken bone. And had set the bone right under anaesthesia. But still the post procedure x rays shows a little deviation in the bone alignment. Can you please take a look at attached images and let me know if its a cause of concern and if we should get a second opinion.
The first two are before procedure and the next two are after procedure.

Brief Answer:
This position is acceptable

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that bone fragment are reduced well and there is no need to be worried about. I understand your concern because it is not hundred percent matching. But perfect reduction is not needed as bone has capacity to remodel. So bone fragment will adjust in time and there will not be any problem in fracture union or hand function.
So keep this plaster for 6 weeks. During this time, he should keep his finger moving as finger can become stiff in plaster. . Make sure that plaster is not broken. I would also recommend you to take calcium and vitamin D.
After 6 weeks plaster can be removed and then physiotherapy will be needed.
I hope this answer will be helpful. Let me know if there is any followup questions.
thanks
