Question: Hi
I had a dog bite my leg 5 weeks ago
The wound on my leg has healed without infection but there is a large lump below the wound. I had an ultrasound done and the results are fluid buildup .The lump has reduced a little in size in the last week and a half. The lump is hard and I have no feeling on the skin where the lump Is will I get feeling back? Does that mean there is nerve damage ?
There is no pain when it is touched but sometimes I get throbbing pain in the area what is the throbbing pain?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
It may take up to a year for the skin to be sensitive again.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please mention how large is the fluid collection in the ultrasound?
Generally when you get wounded, small branches of skin nerves get injured. This leads to temporal skin insensitivity. Such feeling can last from 3 months to even a year as the nerves do regenerate very slowly. But sooner or later such feeling will disappear.

Fluid collection should be drained with needle. Especially if its large. Otherwise the fluid can become an abscess. If so, throbbing pain can appear. It may be a sign of such infection.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

The size of the lump is is 4.5cm this is the size after it has shrunk in size it was bigger before .
It is feels hard not squishy like one would think if it is fluid. What makes it hard?

The throbbing pain only happens periodically maybe once a day and only for a few seconds it feels like contractions
There is no discoloration of the lump at all. The nurse practitioners told me that it does not appear infected that it would be red and it would hurt.
It hurts when I put pressure on i.e. When I sit
As it is on the back of my thigh

Brief Answer:
It has to be drained.

Detailed Answer:
Well, it has to be drained for sure. Even if it was not infected, can become. Hardness is one of infection symptoms. Redness does not have to be present especially if the fluid is not right under the skin.
So please consult general surgeon. No doubt it should be drained.

Regards.
