default
Posted on Wed, 25 Nov 2015
Question: I am using elcafort - 1 tab a day for past 6 months on doctor's prescription. I have stopped taking it for past one week. I am feeling light headedness and lack of sleep. Is it due to Elcafort withdrawal?
Is there any response on my query?

Brief Answer:
information about current treatment and stopped drugs needed

Detailed Answer:
dear,
Welcome to Hcm
I can understand the distress you must be through.
It is important here for me to know the prescribed treatment(whole prescription and list of drugs) that you were on, and that you had stopped since past one week and the stoppage of which you think has resulted in the withdrawal. Therefore, Kindly provide a compete prescription details of your latest treatment.
I am asking you this because, abrupt discontinuation of these drugs of ativan, deveniz, tricka, etirest certainly results in withdrawal symptoms of anxiety, restless XXXXXXX insomnia, irritability, weakness, etc.

If you have asked only about eclafort, then it is not known or unlikely for it to produce withdrawal problems on discontinuation.

Another possibility is to asses the underlying condition that you had been prescribed these drugs for. The symptoms that you are thinking of as withdrawal could actually be an exacerbation of the existing anxiety condition.

Therefore, i would request you for
1) A complete detailed prescription, and the drugs that you have stopped amongst.
2) The underlying psychiatric problem for which you have been prescribed these drugs.

Kindly revert back with the information.

Regards,
Dr Pankaj Borade

Note: If the symptoms are severe and preventing you form functioning, it is strongly suggested to consult a psychiatrist urgently.
