Suggest Treatment For Withdrawal Symptoms Of Dapsone

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: Hello. XXXXXXX Gilpin here.
I have a possible reaction to gluten - sore and swollen tongue.
I have been taking a medicine called Dapsone (had to go find correct name) for probably 8 to 10 years for the symptoms of rash and itching my dermatologist has prescribed. I first was taking 75 mg daily but have gradually been able to reduce the dosage to 25 mg daily. (I also use the prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 0.1% on the affected areas. These meds have enabled me to live a normal life if I only eat a very small amount of foods containing gluten.
The problem I am writing about (here at midnight on Sunday) is that I ran out of Dapsone about a week ago and have had difficulty getting the Rx refilled. Long story there. Not taking Dapsone for 7 or 8 days now has allowed my skin rash and itching to gradually worsen, but this evening I am experiencing a sore and swelling tongue. I am considering going to an ER but thought I'd check here first.
Any suggestions?

I expected an immediate suggestion. If that is not possible I will have to go to an ER tonight and I will not need the $18.00 service.
Please advise immediately.

Please void the service I agreed to on 4-11-2016. I thought I was paying for an immediate piece of advice prior to going to an ER late on a Sunday night. Your website misinformed me.

Brief Answer:
Suspicious of acute exacerbation.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir, Hi & Good evening.
Thanks for posting your query on health care magic.
After having gone through the history given in your query, I am of the opinion that you have developed symptoms which are suggestive of acute exacerbation of dermatitis herpetiformis.
This appears to be your skin problem for which Dapsone was presribed and after discontinung it you seem to have developed the exacerbation of the skin problem.
I would advise you to consult a dermatologist for the use of steroid shots for the immediate relief of the symptoms and an alternate drug like sulphapyridine, and sulphamethoxypyridazine to control the signs and symptoms of Dermatitis herpitiformis.
Hope the suggestions given would be useful.
Best wishes.
