Suggest Treatment For Withdrawal Effects Of Pain Medicines

Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014
Question: My adult son has had two or three surgeries on his back over the past few years and experiences severe in his lower legs and feet. His pain doctor has prescribed him pain medication (patch) which lasts him 3 week and he is then bed ridden and in pain for the next 10 days until new medication is prescribed. He goes through withdrawal during the 10 days every month. This doesn't seem right to me that a doctor would prescribe a pain regimen like this and have a patient suffer like my son does every month. What is your opinion of the way the medication is dispensed? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Don't be abusive

Detailed Answer:
Dear
I am sorry for the symptoms your son is suffering
Dear as pain is released from the medication you should not be worried.
In my opinion you should consult your neurologist and discuss the possibility of starting poly therapy (a combination of antiinflamator's, analgesics and lumbar fortress, or pregabalin if pain is spreaded as nerve root)
As a conclusion you don't have to worry too much because pain isn't a risky sign.
Consult your neurologist about my opinion.
Wish my answer will help you

My concern was about the 10 days he goes without medication. It just doesn't seem like a good regimen to me. Why not give him pain medication that treats his pain for 30 days, not 21 and then have him suffer for 10 days without medicine. This just doesn't seem right to me. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Don't be doubtfull

Detailed Answer:
Dear
I know you are upset but you should understand that he is trying to protect him.
Anyway I think it will be better to take another opinion from a neurologist because long term therapy needs clinical examination step by step.
