Question: Hello.Doctor, my name is XXXX and I am a 48 year old.woman with gastroparesis, esophageal spasms, diverticulitis and.several other chronic.conditons like migraines and.arthritis in my neck and back. Recently I.have had a 30 pound weight gain over four months. One of those months I ate no.solid food,.I.have pneumonia and antibiotics.coupled.with gp made.everything but water.and diluted pedilyte come.clback up. I gained nine pounds in that month. I maintain a very strick diet because.of.the gp and sadly cant keep my caloriesnover.about 400 right now.so.they are suggesting.a.feeding.tube again. My body rejected.the first one afternthree months last.fall. my question after.all that is--the weight gain even taking.into.account.starvation mode should notnbe possible. In fact.when I.wss.a.teenager I had an.eating.disorder.and thinned done to 110 pounds on considerably more.calories.than I consume now.

One probability is that you could be having low functioning or hypothyroidism that may be the cause of weight gain. Secondly, it could be a side effect of one of the drugs or medications that you are currently taking.

Thirdly, it could be partially attributed to the Gastroparesis.

What is your current weight? and what was your weight four months back? What medicines are you currently taking?

Lastly, weight gain could be due to immobility as well. Lack of exercise needs to be looked into too.
