Suggest Treatment For Weakness And Dry Mouth

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Oct 2016
Question: Hello, I have been feeling weak and have a terribly dry mouth. My stool has changed from sinking brown to stinky floating yellowish. I do have a kidney stone but no pain.I had a spell with my stomach a few weeks ago because I took too many motrin for my arthritis pain. This dry mouth and stool changes have happened over the past 6 days.No changes in medications but haven't been eating well if at all. My worst complaint is the dry mouth and weakness which I feel are most likely because I may be dehydrated. Any other ideas why I am feeling this way? 50 year old female in first stages of menopause. Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Anemia, Hypothyroidism or a parasite in the stool

Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.

While I was going through your query the first diagnoses that passed though my mind was for sure dehydration. The dry mouth, the tiredness may be a cause of dehydration.
Why has the dehydration happened it is my question.

If I was your caring doctor I would recommend doing these labs:
-- CBC (complete blood count) to rule out anemia as one of the causes of tiredness.
-- fT3, fT4, TSH, to rule out a low production of the thyroid hormone which may cause all these symptoms.
-- Stool microscopy for ova and parasite. Giardia Lamblia for example, would cause all these symptoms.

It is good that you are drinking plenty of water because it is very important.
If you haven't started yet, consider taking calcium and vitamine D since you are starting with your menopause, as a preventive measure for osteoporosis.

Hope this is helpful.
