Suggest Treatment For Water Clogged Ear After Swimming

Question: Last week I went swimming and I got some water in my ear and it got blocked. I thought I would give it time to go away so I left it thinking if I do things like sleeping the left side and use a cotton bud it will come out but it still has not come out. My right ear feels very irritating as I can't hear from it properly and it feels like I have plugged it with my finger, that's how much sound I can hear from it, and because sound is going into one ear it is very annoying and frustrating. Shall I make a doctors appointment or is there something I can do to get rid of it, at this point I am quite worried. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
The ear should be examined

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Normally, the blockage in the ear should have resolved by now. You should not attempt to manipulate the hardened or compacted wax especially if there is sense of obstruction or blockage and decreased hearing. Your GP should check the affected ear to look for presence of any foreign body , for it to be removed safely. If there is excess wax then ear drops to soften the wax can be advised. If there is still no relief and the presence of a foreign body is ruled out then your doctor can syringe the ear to remove the wax. If an infection is suspected then oral antibiotics and nasal decongestants can be advised to counter the infection and accompanying inflammation.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
