Question: Hello, Monday evening I was not feeling well and threw up my dinner. I woke up in the middle of the night with a fever. Since then the fever has stayed with me, between 99-100.7. I have kept it at bay with Ibuprophen, none of that seemed unusual, other than I haven't been sick like that for about 5 years. The problem is a severe pain in my chest when I try to swallow food or even water. I can get food down but not without a sharp pain. The pain is there even without eating or drinking anything but much duller. My girlfriend suggested Ginger Tea which has seemed to help short term.

Hi there.
Thanks for writing in.
You might have had a viral gastroenteritis initially with fever and vomiting , and later it might have progressed to gastritis/acidity because of brufen intake.
Brufen can cause gastritis, and that is the reason why it should be taken after food....to minimise the side effects. Or it should be taken with an antacid.
However, do avoid brufen from now on.
Please do visit a physician.
1.The doctor might prescribe some proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole etc..to treat the acidity. Do take the medications and follow the advice given by the treating physician.
2.Avoid smoking, alcohol, tea, coffee, carbonated beverages, oily, spicy and fatty food.
3. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.
