Suggest Treatment For Vaginitis

Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I used toilet paper to wipe my vaginal after sex, and had sex shortly after. A couple days later, I got my period, and clumps of the paper came out along with a very fishy smell and pelvic pain, also burning closer to the outside of my vaginal. I believe the toilet paper was pushed up during sex. Should I go to the doctors? I don't know what I should do. I'm afraid I have an infection.

Brief Answer:
Might have vaginitis, please consult your doctor for treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
It is possible that you might have developed a mild infection due to retention of toilet paper in the vagina from the incident mentioned above. It is important for you to consult your doctor and get examined and take treatment. There is a possibility of vaginitis due to the toilet paper being lodged in the vagina for couple of days and start of an infection. Please do not douche the area and see your doctor within a day or two. If prescribed antibiotics, please take complete course of medications. Avoid having sex till you meet your doctor.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,

Is there any way that I can get the toilet paper out? I am afraid of developing a worse infection in the next few days if it stays in, even if I do take antibiotics.

Brief Answer:
Please follow instructions below to get the paper out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

You can use the instructions below to remove any toilet paper stuck in your vagina.
1. Please wash your hands with soap and water.
2. Squat down, sit on the toilet, or stand with one foot resting elevated on the bathtub or a chair.
3. Slowly insert two fingers into your vagina. Sweep your fingers back and forth and try to feel the object.
4. Tighten your lower abdominal muscles as if you are going to have a bowel movement. This may push the object lower in the vagina, so you can reach it with your finger.
5. Once you feel the object, grasp it and pull it out of the vagina.

If you cannot find the paper, you will have to see a doctor immediately. It is important that you get the object out as soon as possible to avoid the infection from getting bad.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
