Question: Hello Doc,
for last 4-5 months I am having very heavy periods. I have 2-3 fibroids for quite some time now. I visited Doc in Jul end. Doc gave me tablet- Trapic. After taking the medicine flow has come down but now other problem is other. Now I am getting periods more frequently. ie earlier my cycle was of 26 days, but last 3-4 months every cycle is coming 1 day earlier. ie 25 days, then it reduced to 24 days and last one I got in 21 days. further periods last for 7 days as against 5 days earlier. I am stressed out because of this. Is there any medication to reduce/remove fibroids?

Brief Answer:
Get a repeat scan

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

Get a scan done to know the exact size and location of the fibroid.. Treatment modality varies according to size and location..

Size of fibroid less than 5 cm intramural or subserous can undergo a watchful expectancy.. Size of fibroid greater than 5 cm and submucous might require a surgical removal of the fibroid..

In my opinion, first you should take a course of Oral contraceptive pill for 3 months to regularise the period.. If the period is heavy can take trapic..

If period doesnot regularise after 3 months and there is ongoing heavy bleeding, get a myomectomy or hystrectomy depending on the family status..

There is no medication to remove the fibroid.. GnRH analogues are tried to reduce the size of fibroid over a period of 3 months.. But long term use not advisable due to side effect of osteoporosis..

Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..
