default
Posted on Thu, 19 Jun 2014
Question: I am a 28 year old female and I have been told that I have fibroids....lots of them. I was also told that they sometimes go away on their own...I was also told that I have a very large uterus...is this bad? Will any of this keep me from having children? I don't want to be childless and I need to know if there are any procedures I can get..

Brief Answer:
Surgical treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Uterine Fibroids also called Fibromyomas are non-cancerous growths that appear during childbearing years and require treatment only when they cause discomfort, sharp Pelvic pains or Profuse Menstrual Bleeding. They can interfere in conception since these are multiple in your case.
The mainstay of treatment of symptomatic fibroids has been surgery, which is myomectomy (removal of the fibroids). myomectomy can also be done laparoscopically (key-hole surgery), dramatically reducing the post- operative morbidity. You can discuss about the surgical treatment with your gynecologist.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
