Suggest Treatment For Urine Infection In A Child

Question: hi, my baby girl is 10 months old, she is putting pressure while passing urine. She was diagnosed with mild UTI, her pead has given her taxim o antibiotic for 5 days whose dose is completed. But after that also she is putting pressure, reflux scan is also done and everything is normal in her case. Can we give alkasol to her? Why she is putting pressure while passing urine? reports detail: urine protein concentration 5.2 mg/dl random urine foe creatinine 13.5 mg/dl urine for protein creatnine 0.39 urine calcium random 1.3 mg/dl urine calcium creatinine ratio 0.1:1 in report it is written as significant proteinuria but below nephrotic range.. Please help

Brief Answer: repeat urine examination with culture Detailed Answer: Hi Urine infection can cause some amount of protein loss in the urine. I would suggest you to repeat urine routine test and protein along with urine culture to confirm if there is infection and protein loss is decreasing compared to the previous reports. You can give alkaliniser like you mentioned. Ensure t o give her plenty of liquids orally. I suppose the infection is still there and that's why she is straining at urination. Regards Dr Arun

Thank you so much for quick reply Sir!! We did her urine test on 21 march 2014 in which Albumin[+] and calcium oxalate[++] were found. Sir Taxim O( 15g/30 ml) antibiotic doses were 5 days twice 5 ml . Just want to ask do we need to give antibiotic again??? what should be the dose of alkasol?? We are giving her fluid and lemon juice. we shown her to nephrologist and urologist. So nephrologist gave her taxim o for 5 days and told to all test again in 15 days Is it fine??? Please suggest her food .

Brief Answer: repeat tests as advised Detailed Answer: Alkasol 3ml thrice daily . Yes, lots of liquids and lemon juice should be fine. Repeat tests should decide whether to continue antibiotic or not. If infection is still there you need to continue or change antibiotics. Ensure that she drinks lot of liquids. Regards Dr Arun

Thank u Sir!!! Sir unfortunately Alkasol syrup is not available in near by medical shop. Chemist has given us "Himalaya Renalka" syrup. Can we give this syrup as alkaliniser. if yes, what should be the dose??? Is it safe medicine for 10 months old baby? Can we give this to infant??? We will be giving her urine for routine test soon. Brief Answer: avoid himalaya Detailed Answer: It's better to stick to standard medicines like citralka 3ml . The medicine you mentioned is unheard of.
