Question: Good Afternoon, My husband is having a bladder problem. He can't control it. every time he gets up from a chair or laying down he can't get to the bathroom and ends up wetting himself. He had bariatric surgery several years ago and doesn't have a problem with that. He has had high blood pressure which is running between 110/130. he was diabetic until he had the surgery now he just takes metformin once a day. He gets so depressed bout this new problem with bladder control. He is 74 yrs old and weights about 190 lbs.

Brief Answer:
It can be urinary tract infection or prostate problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic.

Based on the history you have shared, and his age group along with history of diabetes it is possible to have urinary tract infections which leads to symtoms like urgency, frequency and hesitancy alongwith incontinence or passing of urine without intimidation.

He can get it tested by urinalysis and cultures. If it comes out to be positive, a course if ciprofloxacin will help or any antibiotic shown sensitive on cultures.

In this age group, prostate enlargement can also present like this at times with incontinence rather than outflow obstruction. For that ultrasound KUB may be needed to be done. if it isn't proven, then continue work up and referal to a neurologist for other causes of incontinence in your cases.

Hoping him a speedy recovery. If you dont have any more questions, please close the discussion.
