Posted on Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Question: I have noticed two hard internal lumps opposite of each other on my buttocks where I sit , between my lower back and anus area , they were inflamed at one point hot to the touch , and painful to sit down , the inflammation has subsided but the lumps are still there and somewhat tender . What is the possibility of this being a herniated Gluteal , or herniated sciatica ? Thank you

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of it so I can give more precise answer?
According to your description this lumps are not herniated gluteal or herniated sciatica for sure. Most likely you have some infection in the mentioned areas. If this two lumps are in the area between the buttocks, pilonidal cyst is the most probable reason. If this lumps are in other buttocks areas, local skin infection is the reason. Pain indicates that the lumps are filled with pus and should be drained. In case of pilonidal cyst, you should consult general surgeon and have it removed

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

They are not external or visible to the eye so a picture would not confirm , they are also no puss in them , these are deep where the muscle of the buttocks are and where a person would sit on , they are about egg size and almost perfect in position from one butt cheek to the other . And no , they are not between the cheeks they are in the cheeks bone or muscle area

.

Detailed Answer:
Usually when something is on both sides symmetrically, there is no pathology in that. So maybe what you have noticed are the bones which should be present exactly in the area of sitting. For sure this is not a herniated sciatica or gluteal. If you are certain that this is what was not there before, soft tissues ultrasound should give the answer.
