Question: Hi Doctor, my wife (ago 40) was just diagnosed breast cancer, with BI-RADS 4c (by ultrasound) and BI-RADS 3 (by molybdenum target method). I want to know does she has to take Mastectomy surgery instead of Lumpectomy? The doctors here has not determin which method to be done, they need to cut out the tumor to check whether it's good or bad. (like biopsy but they do surgery at the same time)

Brief Answer:
lumpectomy

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since the size of the tumour in your left breast is small in size in ultrasonography lumpectomy should be done along with sentinel node biopsy of the lymph node in the armpit.

Mastectomy is not needed and if the surgeon feels he wants to shrink the tumour in size further then he can give chemotherapy and then do breast conserving surgery.
