Posted on Wed, 16 Aug 2017
Question: Hi. Left thumb, joint gets stuck in the bent position. Most often first thing in the morning. Then, after working it, it "clicks" but can bend and then the pain goes away. There is pain at the base of the thumb too, in the joint.
Is there anything I can do?

Brief Answer:
Tenosynovitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

We call this as trigger thumb or medical jargon called stenosing stenosynovitis.

The reasons are not clear.
however you should buy a thumb splint and wear it at night so that the thumb is not flexed.
If there is pain you can take Ibuprofen as well.
Avoid activity that cause flexion of thumb till it is cured.
If this doesn't work a steroid injection is given at the joint to release.
Please clarify if you need information.

Can I get the splint at a pharmacy? What is flexion?

Should I wear the splint all the time or just at night?

Brief Answer:
At night splints

Detailed Answer:
I suggest to buy from any pharmacy. You wear at night only. Flexion is bent of the finger.
