Question: I HAVE M.S. AND I SUFFER FROM TREMORS. I TAKE TWO TABLETS.
     Dextroamphet Tab 10 MG’s & Clonazepam Tablet 2 MG’s.
I take 1 in the morning and another one 1 early afternoon. (These are for my tremors.) THEY CAUSE HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS SUCH AS DEPRESSION (LOTS OF TEARS) AND THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE. IS THERE A BETTER MEDICINE THAT IS AVAILABLE?

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

I must say though that I am a little at a loss to understand why are you taking Dextroamphetamine for tremor. I am not aware of it being indicated for that purpose, actually judging by its mechanism of action I would say it is more likely to increase the tremor. On top of that it is probably the responsible drug for the side effects you mention, much more likely than clonazepam. I would suggest you to withdraw dextramphet, but that should be done very gradually, by lowering the dose progressively, not right away as it is a drug which causes dependence.

So my advice would be to try Clonazepam alone first. If that doesn't work then other options to consider would be propranolol, primidone, buspirone, isoniazid, hydroxyzine. They belong to different classses, so if one fails the other might work. I must say that success is not guaranteed though tremor related to brain lesions like in the case of multiple sclerosis is difficult to treat.

I remain at your disposal for other questions.

I have tried this only to find myself tired and unable to do much.

I think I want to request my money back. Since I have already tried this.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

As you asked a question about tremor I addressed that issue and I believe to have offered several alternatives and to have addressed also the cause for those side effects you mention.

Fatigue is another issue which is common in MS. Since you have been taking a stimulant drug such as dextroamphet it is natural that its withdrawal won't help with fatigue, withdrawal from stimulants is difficult even without the MS in play, so it won't be easy. Options which are used for fatigue in MS are amantadine or fluoxetine, but it remains an issue which is difficult to treat.

MS is a chronic condition and in some patients some symptoms may persist despite what medicine has to offer. We do not claim to be able to achieve what modern medicine hasn't achieved yet on this site. We offer health advice and second opinions and it is for our time and effort that payment is requested, not because we guarantee a solution to what medicine hasn't been able to solve. Me and my colleagues all have regular jobs as well and it is for taking away from the time we would otherwise spend at home with our families that the site offers us a percentage of what you pay. Anyway if you still want to take your payment back you have to contact administrators, I am only a member of the medical panel and am not able to do that from my interface.

Wishing you good health.
