Suggest Treatment For Tiny Lump On Labia Majora

Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: Hi doc, I am a 47 year old married monogamous female & do not have active sexual relations that frequently(God bless, look 26 :) ), non-smoker and yes, I do eat my fruits and vegetables. However, from time to time eat fast/fatty fried food and never have had outcome like this that has happened before. However, in my early 30's I had an outbreak of genital warts near from my lower labia minorus section and the surrounding anus section of my body. I immediately had them surgically burned-off and removed. Gratefully, since then, they've never returned. They had burned so very much every time I normally urinated throughout the day. Unfortunately, in the most recent days, I have this tiny lump/bump which may appear to look like a pimple trying to protrude from the edge of the upper right section of my labia majorus and it's itchy from time to time. What's your expert prognosis and how do you suggest I treat this specific type of growth?? THKS., - Mrs. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Possible Bartholini's cyst,genital warts;a photo is required...

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mrs. XXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. A picture of the lump you are referring is required for a more precise opinion.

2. Anyway, as I do not have this picture, from what you are describing, I can say that the tiny lump/bump on your labia majora could be Bartholini's cyst.

However, you are saying that it is itchy from time in time, which is indicative for infection.

3. Genital warts is also to consider although they are not associated with any symptom except for rare cases where they can itch.

With regards to treatment strategy, the very first thing is to determine its nature through physical examination.

Then, the next step is deciding on therapy: if warts are confirmed, should discuss with dermatologist to get them removed.
If only Bartholini's cyst, no specific treatment is required apart keeping a good hygiene locally and wait-and-watch for other changes (infection, pus, bleeding, etc.). Only if such complications are present, specific treatment is then needed with local and oral antibiotics.

Your partner should undergo physical examination too as both of you might need treatment.
For the moment, I advise to keep good local hygiene, avoid sexual intercourse until betterment.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if you have further queries!
