Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus

Posted on Thu, 6 Nov 2014
Question: Hey Doctor. About 2 years ago, I got a cortisone shot in my wrist for de quervain's syndrome and a month or so later, I began noticing a ringing in my ear. It went away for a few months but came back. Do you think it may be related to the shot? Also, when I wake up in the morning, I notice a pulsating feeling (extra sensitivity) in my ear from noise in the morning time only (when I grind my teeth or listen to sound). Do you know what that may be?
THanks

Brief Answer:
Your clinical history is suggestive of Tinnitus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX ,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed medication and understand your concern.

Your clinical history is suggestive of Tinnitus in ear which is multi-factorial .

It has no relation with cortisone shot .

Extra sensitivity in your ear from noise in the morning time may be because of Meniere 's disease .

To know the Exact cause of tinnitus in your case , we have rule out following important causes
1) Hypertension - measure BP
2) Noise trauma , Otosclerosis , Meniere 's disease - Do pure tone audiometry & Impedance audiometry to differentiate.
As you already went to ENT doctor wax , fluid in ear & infection is already rule out .
Till the investigation done , i would advice tab cinnarizine 25mg in night to suppress the tinnitus .Avoid excess salt , tea & coffee .

Here my suggestion is that you should consult your doctor measure BP & do investigation like pure tone audiometry & impedance audiometry to know the cause for your tinnitus .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
