Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I have recently developed 3 to 4 small flat pink/reddish circular patches on the front side and backside of my shoulder. They are about 1 to 1.5cm in size and have a sandpaper like rough feel. They at times become scaly as well. I am in god health and I am 61 years old. Occasionally they itch slightly. I have 4 cats living here with me.

Brief Answer:
Tinea corporis (fungal infection of skin);check your cats too...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history and the photos you provided carefully and understood your concerns.

The flat pink/reddish circular patches with sandpaper like rough feeling seem to be related to fungal infection of the skin (tinea). Taking into account that you have 4 cats living with your, I advise to get them checked by the vet doctor for tinea infection and get them treated as well.

It is common for people living with cats or other domestic animals to develop tinea infection.

I advise to:
- keep a good local hygiene
- wash with warm water and soap
- rinse it thoroughly
- dry it well
- apply lotrimin AF cream twice daily for 2 weeks.

Wish fast recovery!
