Suggest Treatment For Thumb Arthritis

Question: I am considering an operation on my right thumb to alleviate pain in the thumb/hand joint. This would involve attaching a tendon from my wrist to the thumb bone. It would also remove the small bone that the thumb bone is in contact with. This procedure would help re-align the thumb. I am told that the success rate was highly successful. The steroid shot is not working. I was told the healing process would take approx 4 months. I am comfortable moving forward; however, isn't their an easier method of repair. Simply stated, haven't they developed any injection of a product to replace the cartilage that has worn away (ie: botox)? Thank you in advance for your response.

Brief Answer:
Hyaluronic acid injections can help for short term.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
For a worn out cartilage, the injections of hyaluronic acid are given to act as a cushion that can provide a relief for short term. But it cannot replace the cartilage itself. It will also not re align the thumb. This needs a surgical procedure only.
It is best to get the surgery done to have a complete relief.
I hope this answers your query.
