Suggest Treatment For Tennis Elbow

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Sep 2014
Question: I have had moderate pain in my right elbow--all around it--for 2 ½ months. I have taken 60 days of Meloxicam, with no perceptible benefit. My Primary doc says it's tennis elbow. I don't play tennis, but have been working at a new job since April, that requires fairly heavy lifting, etc.

Now it hurts to type, write, drive, lift anything with my palm facing downward--doesn't have to weigh hardly anything...

Brief Answer:
It looks to be Tennis elbow

Detailed Answer:

Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Even If most of us do not play tennis but we have lots of daily activities much more than a tennis player which leads to wear and tear of muscle and ligament.
I usually treat my patient's with-
1. Ibuprofen/diclofenac as pain killer (anti-inflammatory analgesic), Ice fomentation,Local gel/spray application with a short course of cortisone.
2. Wear Tennis elbow brace/belt.
3. Local cortisone (depomedrol) Injection for patient's not responding to above measure at 6-8 week.
4.Physiotherapy also help.
5. Surgery is uncommon as 90% to 95% of people with tennis elbow will improve and recover with the treatment plan described. However, about 5% of people will not get better with conservative treatment and will need surgery.

Once the pain is reduced or eliminated which takes a couple of weeks, to promote healing there are specific physical-therapy exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles and tendons around the injured elbow. Any activity that aggravates the pain must be avoided.

Hope this Helps. I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
