Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis
Question: Hello,
About a month ago i was diagnosed and treated for a yeast infection and BV. A few days ago i was diagnosed with tonsilitis and was prescribed an antibiotic, amoxicillin. I now have signs of another yeast infection. Cottage cheese like discharge, ithcy/burning, and irritated skin. My question is- I have five days left of antibiotics, should I wait out doing a yeast infection treatment until the antibiotics are finished or should I start now. Will it come back if I start now? Thank you!

I understand your situation and problem.
Vaginal discharge is a frequent presenting complaint in many females. I would like to know if you had a new sexual partner, introduced a new soaps or detergents, douching or using contraceptive vaginal ring or IUD use. Your symptoms suggest vulvovaginal candidiasis. You must get bimanual examination done by gynaecologist and get vaginal swab taken, pH check, swab collected to test fungal elements by microscopy and culture and also microscopy for parasitic and bacterial agents. You must get your blood sugar fasting and randome checked to rule out diabetes mellitus. It could be possible suffering from resistant Candida (e.g., Candida glabrata)which is resistant to treatment but that can be ascertained after investigations. You have to take azole medication in the form of a vaginal cream, ointment, tablet or suppository for seven to 14 days. Also get your partner checked for the same. Maintain good perineal hygiene and wash with soap and water. About your query for antibiotics which you are taking. I would like to tell you that antibiotics do not interfere with fungal testing so you can get it tested. But it is possible that some secondary bacterial infection could be missed. So for that you can again take a test after 72 hrs of stopping antibiotics.
