Question: I've been having nerve sensitivity to skin, vision, taste, smell, hearing for years. PROBLEM: I had a severe reaction to an antidepressant 30 years ago. To counter the anxiousness and depression I was put on Imipramine/Xanax treatment. Two years ago I changed to Zoloft which is working great, BUT the sensitivity issue is back. Especially on my skin (nose, ears, arms, legs). Also, I have shooting pains in my feet (not Diabetes), hands, legs. I hope I explained everything well enough. Do I need any nerve test done?

Brief Answer:
EMG+NCV test can be done. Take methylcobalamine supplements

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. You have explained clearly enough. The best advice would be to ask you to switch back to the previous medication. Discuss with your treating physician.

It would be a good idea to get an EMG+NCV test done to evaluate the nerves.

Your symptoms seem consistent with peripheral neuropathy. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 could also give rise to such a presentation. Taking methylcobalamine (Vitamin B12) 1500 mcg supplement per day for at least a couple of weeks should help in improving the situation.

Let me know if I could help further.
