Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: I have a sensation of pressure in my head, like when changing altitude and the ears need to pop. This has been over a week, particularly on the right side, there is no pain yet but the really strange symptom that I have never experienced before is sounds play back in that ear less than a second after I hear them outside my head. Like an echo but doesn't repeat over and over just once. Certain tones are worse than others. I have been taking an over- the -counter decongestant, but it hasn't helped. Oh, no recent loud or extreme noise exposure or fever.

Brief Answer:
seems like eustachian tube dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Your problem seems to be related to Eustachian tube dysfunction.

The pressure or popping sound or strange sounds are usually because of that.

Please take a mucolytic, nasal decongestant and steam inhalation. Try chewing a gum and doing valsalva manoeuver will help things.

If the symptoms do not improve, please see an ENT and a complete ENT examination is required. A focus of infection or mucosal hypertrophy in the nose and para nasal sinus region makes one prone to Eustachian tube dysfunction.

If your ENT feels the need for an investigation, an impedence audiometry will be asked for.

If there is negative pressure in the middle ear on impedence audiometry which is not getting resolved with medical treatment, myringotomy with grommet insertion is an option.

Feel free to ask another query.

Regards
