Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Costochondritis

Posted on Sat, 17 Jun 2017
Question: I've been having some pain in upper left quadrant of chest; not right over heart area, but a little higher and toward the shoulder. This comes and goes, but is something I'm very aware of when it occurs; can last for a few minutes up to a half hour; feel more muscular than deep within my chest. Breathing seems regular, no palpitations or sweat, no sense of throwing up; but a little worrying anyway. Pushing on that area somewhat exacerbates the pain, but tolerable. Been happening for about 3 weeks now. Saw my primary a week ago and he said heart sounded ok, but this pain is still occurring. I am not a medical doctor, academic.

Brief Answer:
Probably costochondritis!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully. This indeed doesn’t sound like a heart related pain. It is more of a possible inflammation of the muscles/soft tissue at the level of the chest. This is commonly called Costochondritis in medical terms. Management is with anti inflammatory. For this reason, I will recommend that you tale Ibuprofen: 400mg every 8hours. This should be able to address your pain. Keep me updated about this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Follow up with me after 48-72hours on this drug. Let me know how you are doing. Also, feel free to follow up with me if need be.
