Question: Hi I always get chesty in September not quite sure why but it happens every year. This year is a little different. It normally starts with a sore troat then progress to my chest then last for ages. I evenly admit defet an go gp who prescribes pred and anti booties it will then start to clear up. This time how ever it's come on a lot quicker. It started Tuesday with no throat first an hit me quite hard. I was getting very clamy. So I went gp on Friday an they said my chest did not sound to bad. But due to the fact that I was struggling to answer senteces because of breathing she prescribed the usual pred an anti biotics. On the day before going surgury my sats were 89% she did not however check them. I'm now a couple of days in and I'm still wheezy but not to the same extent. The cough I feel is loosening an sounding more fruity than tight. I'm not having to use the inhaler as much. My peak flow is still low for me between 250-300. Normal is 450. My kinds question is I've been doing my sats regerly an they are siting around 91 most of the time but will drop to 85 for periods of time especially in the evening. Do you think this is okay and that it just needs more time to get back to normal.

Brief Answer:
Your oxygen saturation will improve as your symptoms become better.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

From your description it appears that you have bronchial asthma and you just had acute exacerbation of asthma. Generally that`s how it happens-with a sore throat or common cold the breathing and cough become worse and you have to take antibiotics and prednisolone.

Now you seem to have got over your acute attack but complete relief is yet to come. You have to take inhalers-try symbicort 2 puffs twice a day and take a tablet of montair lc daily and a pantodac tablet.

Do not worry about your oxygen saturation. It will improve as your symptoms improve. You may do some breathing exercises.

Brief Answer:
These are medicines used for treatment of allergy/asthma.

Detailed Answer:
Montair lc is an anti allergic used regularly in asthma. Pantodac is for acidity as excess gastric acid can aggravate the symptoms of asthma.

Breathing exercises are taking deep breaths from one nostril and letting it out from the other nostril and then breathing in from this nostril and breathing out from other one.
