Question: I have been taking benadryl for years on a consecutive basis. And then I started noticing small urinary problems such as headed to see but anyway always come to much problems not being able to urinate at all . I had to go to the er where they had to insert a catheter to get the urine to come out but then shortly after that I was able to go on my own again . I ran across a website that says benadryl can be a contribution to urine retention or even bladder problems I wanted to know could this be the source of my problems

Brief Answer:
Get Evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.

Benadryl contains Diphenhydramine which is an anti histaminic and can relax the bladder too much and can cause issues like you are facing.

However, we have to be sure that there are no other causes like Urinary tract infection , Ureteric stones, which is causing the obstruction.

I would advice you to get a urine routine, Culture, fasting blood sugar and Ultrasound Kidney and bladder.

If any issues are found, you would be treated accordingly.

You should stop the Benadryl abuse in any case.

This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
Very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi. We don't think tumor and cancer just based on these symptoms.
You require evaluation for Urinary Tract infection and Stones that is probably the cause.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
