Question: I am attaching 2 prescriptions from my gastroenterologist based at Asian Heart Institute XXXXXXX Since Feb 2017 I was having severe gastric issues, heart burn , acid reflIux which also led me to get a full cardiac check which eventually was normal. This also caused me back pain sometimes. I used to feel better after releasing gas. Had sense of bitterness in mouth. When problem persisted I consulted the gastroenterologist on 29th April who prescribed me 21 days medicines and diagonised GERD . I took the medicines till 20th May. I started feeling a lot better after the same. I again consulted the doctor on 30th May. He said I need to get endoscopy done as GERD was confirmed . Also he gave me medicines for next 30 days. He said since medication made me feel better hence GERD is confirmed. I am a bit apprehensive in getting endoscopy done as i think its not needed now. I occassionaly expereince acidity and the severity has reducedP ls advise

Brief Answer:
Continue medications.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Since you are feeling better with those medications, GERD is confirmed as told by your doctor.
You can continue taking those medications for 4 more weeks and follow the dietary advice given by him.
Endoscopy is required if you have pain while swallowing. Otherwise there is no need as you are getting relief with the prescribed medications.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
