Suggest Treatment For Swollen Tonsils

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: Hello

Recently, I had fever with sore throat for a few days. The doctor prescribed me with amoxicillin + clavulanic acid and lysozyme chloride. I finished the course of medication for the antibiotic but did not take any of the lysozyme chloride prescribed. My fever and sore throat cleared up.

One week later, I noticed that one side of my tonsils is swollen. It is painful when I swallow. I have no other symptoms except for ear blockage at the same side of the swollen tonsils. It has been about 2 days now.

Is my condition serious and do I have to see a doctor? If not, when should I see a doctor?

Brief Answer:
Additional medication, proper dose needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your doctor prescribed medication to be taken together for maximum effectiveness.
The Lysozyme chloride can increase the potency of antibiotics and may be affective against different strains. It has long been considered helpful in treating bacterial and viral conditions.
Your symptoms indicate an ongoing infection. You need additional treatment. Call your doctor and report your symptoms. You most likely will need to take another dose of both medications. The alternative is that the doctor will change your prescription. I definitely suggest you call the doctor. A chronic and not properly treated infection can have long term effects. Treatment needed!
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope you will feel better soon.
