default
Posted on Fri, 26 Jun 2015
Question: XXXXXXX has swollen Tonsillitis for more than 1 year, but there was no pain.
On 25-May-15, we visited doctor, Doctor suggested to take one tablet (Montek LC) for 10 days (1 tab daily) and to use Meta spray(nasal spray) twice daily to see the impact of this medicine

There was no issue till 5-Jun-2015(around 10 days). On 6-Jun-2015, XXXXXXX started complaining throat pain and also he was not able to breath properly during night.

Today( 08-Jun-2015) , I visited again doctor as the infection was more, Doctor suggested two syrups 1) Augmentin DDS (7.5 ml thrice daily )
2)Ibugesic Plus (5 ml thrice daily).
As per Doctor, this infection was severe bacterial infection and also suggested that if it does not cure in 2 days, I need visit him again.

I would like to take your opinion to know if there is anything I need to worry.

Thanks in advance. Waiting for your quick reply..

Regards,
XXXX

Your son are most probably having chronic tonsillitis with/without adenoid

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX ,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

As per your clinical history it appears that your son are most probably having chronic tonsillitis with/without adenoid enlargement .

If I were your treating doctor , I would advice you
do investigation like Xray Nasopharynx lateral view to rule out adenoid enlargement .
Add Antiseptic Mouth Wash twice daily like betadin & continue all other medication . He will get relief .

Your ENT doctor giving correct treatment plan no need to worry .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Thanks Doctor ! Yes ,we did Neck x-ray and found that he has swollen adenoids and tonsillitis. My son is also doing betadine gargling 3 times/day.

Now he has little fever (100 F). Hope he will be fine as he has just taken Ibugesic Plus.

Yes I need to think the option of tonsillectomy with adenoidectomy.

Just wanted to check, how long it will take to reduce this infection.
I can see the infections are getting more and more after we started the antibiotics(Augmentin DDS). It is now more than 24 hours. He is now having difficulties in breathing. Also complaining pain below left ear.

I would advice , continue antibiotics (Augmentin DDS) with other medications .
Continue using tablet (Montek LC) & Use Meta spray(nasal spray) twice daily .

Pain in left ear is also because adenoiditis & tonsillitis .

Use saline nasal drops 4 times/day like Nasoclear saline drop for difficulties in breathing .

You can consult your ENT Doctor. If you think condition of your son is not good then you can admit your son in hospital for nebulisation & IV antibiotics . It will give early relief .
