Suggest Treatment For Swollen Toe After Injury

Posted on Wed, 25 Jan 2017
Question: I kicked my little right toe against a chair on Monday, Dec. 19. Didn't think I kicked it that hard but it's been swollen and red ever since; my whole foot has been swollen along with it though not as badly as the toe. The toe moves some tho doesn't bend much and is extremely tender to the touch. This is now the 9th day and the toe swelling is no better tho the foot might be a little better. I'm thinking if I go in to see a doctor, there really isn't anything they can do if it's broken. Is there anything else that I could do to help it improve or could something else be wrong??? Seems a bit long to not be seeing any improvement, not???

Brief Answer:
It needs Xray and orthopedician review

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it seems as some small bone your foot got fractured. You need to have its Xray as soon as possible and get it reviewed by an orthopedician. First priority should be to consult any nearby emergency room of some medical facility.

Meanwhile you can use OTC analgesics like acetaminophen and topical anti inflammatory creams or pain relieving ointments like capsaicin. You need to keep it straight and try not to move too much around. It's better to place some support on the sole so that it doesn't bend frequently.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.

So what could possibly be wrong with it besides being broken? And if it is broken, what can they do for it?

Brief Answer:
Other possibility can be soft tissue compression injuries

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Thanks for sharing the feedback. Other possibilities include soft tissue concussions or compression injuries or tendon injuries. If bone fracture is detected on Xrays it may need external or internal fixation by an orthopedician and keeping it straight and Immobile with supports. Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
