Brief Answer: Diclofenac gel.follow up with MRI results. Detailed Answer: Hello there, Welcome to Healthcare magic, Am concerned about your sprain ,as the swelling keeps on increasing, showing the underlying damage. So simple compression bandage and ice packs won’t help in most of the time, so it is better to have an appointment with a surgeon or an orthopedician. As you had one already, it is really appreciable. Use of diclofenac gel [non steroidal anti inflammatory drug] helps to relieves the pain as well as swelling and use of mild analgesics tablet is also advisable along with compression bandage. Usage of crutches helps to reduce the impact, relieving symptoms. As you have already done an MRI, view for a bone fractures [x ray and CT scan are preferable over MRI] and any ligament tear as it been 7 days. So it is viable to have a complete examination and get treated accordingly. Follow up with results. Take care. Dr.surendiran.g

X-ray ruled out fracture, why would I still be swelling with so much pain? Ortho surgeon ruled out fracture. First X-Ray showed torn ligament

Brief Answer: Immobilisation, continue on crutches. Detailed Answer: Hello there, Welcome back, The ligament injury are most common cause of prolonged pain and swelling, next to bone fracture. As your x ray showed torn ligament, it has to be the reason. Well, then it won’t be due to fracture, as X ray ruled out your condition. Ligament tears need some laproscopic surgery to unite them back, but in some case adequate rest and immobilisation heals the ligaments without any intervention. So as I say already, use analgesics and get examined properly and revert back with the suggestion of the examining specialist. Avoid unnecessary use of limb, advisable to continue on crutches . Feel free to ask for follow up query, Take care. Dr.surendiran.g
