Question: For about 4-5 weeks I have had swollen lymph node behind left ear and on same side at hairline back of neck--nodes not painful and are somewhat fixed and rubbery firm, I also have had itchy scalp with some small swollen spots about 6 on that side of head, some with small scabbing and painful. I now also have today tender lower eyelid and red eyes and am unable to wear contacts more than a few hours. I am 48 years old and recall similar scalp condition off and on between age 20-40 but not this severe and not in many years. Brief Answer:
It looks like Seborrheac dermatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it looks like Seborrheac dermatitis.
Because of infection of the scalp, the lymph nodes were enlarged.
You should consult a Dermatologist for scalp lesions.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Cefuroxime tablet along with Anti inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints. If the lymphnodes doesnt regress,I will get an FNAC to know the exact nature of the disease.
The eye complaint may also be related to this. Please consult an Ophthalmologist, get examined clinically and get appropriate prescription.
Hope I answered your query. if you have any questions, I will clarify further.
wish you good health.
Regards

Will it resolve without antibiotics? Will a general practice physician be able to recognize to diagnose properly or is a dermatologist required? Is it related to my thyroid condition being under medicated?

Brief Answer:
Lymphnodes will respond to Antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Enlarged lymphnodes will respond to Antibiotics and Anti inflammatory tablets. If the primary cause is treated ,the lymphnodes may come down without Antibiotic.
It is preferable to consult a Dermatologist rather than a General practitioner.
It is not related to Thyroid disorder.
