Posted on Mon, 20 Jul 2015
Question: Hello doctor , i have question regarding my gums. I usually have swolen gums on upper side due to some trauma bite since last 1 year. I showed it to dentist, he suggested you have deep bite in such case one should go for spring braces or some artificial alternatives. I am seeking for a natural remedy, and yes what could be the alternative?

Hi

Thanks for writing in.

As per your history you have got traumatic bite a year ago & since then you have this problem. I don't completely agree with concept of deep bite & XXXXXXX
You need to answer few of my questions to help me out to make proper diagnosis:-

- Was the onset acute or persistent?
- Is swelling localized or diffuse?
- Is there any other systemic disease or any symptom present ?
- Is there any other perioral manifestation?

There are many home remedies for acute cases but you have this problem since a year. Hence please answer these queries so that i can make further diagnosis.

Awaiting for your follow up

Brief Answer:
Go for scaling.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your answers.

Swollen gums occur usually due to plaque & calculus deposition that results in inflammation of gums further causing bleeding. As you mentioned its recurring & relieved on doing gingivitis.Hence its nothing but gingivitis.
First line of treatment is scaling followed by gum massage with gum tone gel.
Along with that use of 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash once daily half an hour after brushing. Before planing for other orthodontic options go for this procedure.

Consult your dentist for further treatment plan.

Hope I answered your query

Wishing you good health
