Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Right Eye
Very likely self-limiting and not serious: some causes and treatments given
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
If your eyes are not painful and no vision changes than these a re all signs of a not serious condition. If pain in the eye (other than feeling congested in the eye) or vision is affected you will need to see a doctor as soon as possible.
If no pain and no vision changes than we can go on thinking of more common diagnosis like: allergy, bacterial conjuctivitis, viral conjuctivitis and dry eye.
In all the above diagnosis the eye can get red and tearing.
If the eye is itchy than allergy is more likely. If the eye gets yellow scales that stick the eyelids together in the morning than bacterial conjuctivitis might be the most likely cause.
You are already using and antibiotic locally in the eye (terramicina): antibiotics in the eye should be used frequently the first few days, every 2-3 hours for 2-3 days and than every 4-6 hours the next 3-4 days (when you are awake) to have the better effect.
I would also take some antihistamine to help with allergy if the eye is itchy (just in case this might be likely). Loratadine 10 mg at night might be helpful.
If you have pain or swelling at the side on the nose than blockage of the tear-duct might be considered.
So to summarize:
1. use the antibiotic often for 5-7 days as explained above
2. take oral Loratadine 10 mg at night for 4-5 nights and see if it helps
3. wash dry yellow secretions with a gause with warm water gently regularly
4. wash hands with warm water and soap every time before and after touching your eye
5. use a moisturising cream on the face daily- it is dry probably to the tears
6. do not share towels with other people
7. If no improvement in 3-4 days with these treatment or any pain or visual changes please see a doctor as soon as possible.
I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free to ask again if anymore clarification is needed.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
