Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Labia

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Aug 2016
Question: My partner had a swelling on her labia which started 2 days ago. It doesn't itch or burn, it's just a swelling with white spots similar to canker sores, but kind of in a track. It doesn't look similar to herpes pictures, nor does it have any fluid in it. You can see it in top right part of the attached picture.

She went to a doctor Today, but the doctor wasn't clear enough, and doesn't make sense. She said it's bacterial but non contagious, but that it might turn into HIV if she doesn't keep it clean enough. She also told her not to worry, and that she can get blood test done just to make sure.

She gave her Lidocaine, and she will go for blood work on Saturday.

Can it be herpes?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.
1)First of all do not panic.

2)from what you are saying it can be some kind of skin infection. I will suggest to get a prescription for
- Tab AMOXYCILLINE -CLAVULINIC ACID 625mg twice a day for 5 days,
-Tab FLOCONAZOLE 150 mg twice in a week.
- ANTIFUNGAL ointment for local application.
-Lactic acid containing vaginal wash at bath time.

3)Secondly HIV infection will not arise just out of poor hygiene, unless there is possible contact of infected partner.Keep private parts clean and dry.

4) please get sex counseling done so as to avoid any misconceptions and to have safe and protected sex practice.

I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
Wish you great health.

Brief Answer:
Yes, it is not herpes.

Detailed Answer:
hi there,
thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

You are right in saying that it is not Herps.

In Herpes, there is a rash, fluid filled vesicles, and it is associated with intense burning and pain. Also, the rash progresses along the path of the nerve below the skin.

Diagnosis of Herpes can be made from doctor's clinical observation of the rasha nd other symptoms.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks
