Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Face, Neck And Tongue

default
Posted on Thu, 10 Aug 2017
Question: What would cause swelling in the face, neck, and tongue to the point both temples feel like my head is about to pop? Nothing tastes right and I sound like I'm slurring my words (have a hard time saying simple things like "your rate is $29.99" without sounding like I'm drunk). I'm super swollen under my chin to the point my glands are standing out. I do have hypothyroidism but have never felt like this before. Especially with my tongue and speech. Please advise as I am not lucky enough to have health coverage at this time.

Brief Answer:
you need to get medical help in nearest ER at the earliest

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking,

I can understand your concern.

As you explain the history, this is a serious situation.

It might be angioedema or quinke edema probably from allergies. This condition needs urgent medical help because without treatment it might be very serious.

I'd advise to please go to the nearest ER for prompt medical treatment mostly steroids i/v, oxygen if needed and so on. They will do several blood tests to find the exact cause.

Please don't stay at home, and seek help at the earliest.

Take care and feel free to ask me again

As a follow up, I have had carcinoid tumors in the past. One was attached to the upper hilar region of the artery outside my right lung. Then it was found to have metastasized inside of my right lung, so the bottom 2 lobes were removed. That was back in 2007. This new issue wouldn't have anything to do with the previous would it? Just trying to make sure you have the full picture.
