Question: I am 59 years old, and am getting over the flu. My parotid gland started aching last night. This morn
ing it is very swollen and tender. No fever yet. Could it be Mumps?

 yes it seems to be the viral infection of parotid gland. You need to consult a Physician for proper evaluation and management.

To guide you better about the disease, I want to add, this is a viral infection of parotid gland which is located below and in front of the ear. As for every viral disease ,it also has flu like symptoms. It is usually self limiting disease and antivirals are needed to be given very less often.

Mostly patient is kept on conservative management like ACETAMINOPHEN for pain and inflammation relief. Plenty of fluids are recommended. keep a balanced diet and take proper rest.
